Customizing
Settings are divided in two parts. The first part deals with logging while the second covers recommending issues.
Logging
Usually changing this type of settings means you'll have to add or remove a line in a javascript. For each item (url) you can specify category. This is useful if you wish to recommend only items that belong to the same category. Setting product id (or page id) comes handy if you do not wish to share urls with us, but still want to use this system. As long as ids are unique, shorter than 200 characters and reversible (so you know what url or product or article they represent) you can use them.
Filtering uses regular expressions to specify which urls, hosts, IPs, or page titles to exclude from logging. If urls namespace is well structured you just put javascript on all pages and filter out the ones you don't want.
Recommending
Recommending options are: display type, such as ordered and unordered lists, tables. JSON display type allows you to alter the list in arbitraty form. Changing list size and tagline helps you to fine-tune the desired form. You can also specify whether you want to remove items that were visited already by current user.
By default recommendations are shown to all users. Decreasing the display percentage (in combination with Google Analytics) allows you to test, how recommendations affect users, whether they buy or simply surf more.
